Why Owning Original Art is a Smart Investment

July 16, 2025

I've been thinking about a question I often get asked: “Why is original art a smart investment?” For me, it's simple, owning original art is more than just filling a wall; it's about enriching your environment and your life. When I can, I always choose original pieces, whether for myself or as a thoughtful gift. There's something special about giving or receiving an original artwork, it feels personal and meaningful. Plus, it's nice to know that the value of these pieces can grow over time, making them not just emotionally rewarding but potentially financially beneficial as well. Here are three reasons why originals stand out.

Emotional Connection

An original piece is one-of-a-kind, it carries the artist’s energy, vision, and story. It becomes part of your life story, resonating with you in a way prints can’t. It’s more than decoration, it’s personal. There is always a part of my life story behind each piece, no matter how significant or small.

Potential for Appreciation

Art often holds or increases its value over time. Originals, especially by emerging artists, can become significantly more valuable as the artist’s reputation grows. Think of it as owning something emotional and potentially rewarding in the long run.

Portfolio Diversification & Stability

Unlike stocks or crypto, art offers a tangible, non, correlated asset. It’s a physical object that can provide balance in your overall investments. Plus, original art won’t drop to zero, it’s rare, enduring, and unique.
