1. LAY IT OUT FIRST
The prints and artwork are going to alter depending on what space you are deciding to style for, i.e children playroom v’s an office space. Firstly figure out the space you want to work with and buy artworks accordingly.  Mask out the size of the wall or space on the floor, at this point you will have bought all your pieces and framed them so you can arrange different placements on the floor moving the art around until you are happy with a composition. There’s no fear of damaging the wall either. If you are planning on working symmetrically, make sure it balances on both sides. You don’t have to be confined to working in a rectangle or square, style a composition that feels right to the space, however balance throughout is important to make it visually appealing. You might have a huge lean mirror in-between or choose to style above a console table. If your gallery wall is styled above a console table, consider leaning a few artworks on it which gradually move up to the mounted pieces on the wall. You can even lean artworks on the floor and style with flowers, books, or trinkets and work this into your overall composition. Bear in mind how the other accessories will become part of the overall look.

2. MIX ORIGINAL ARTWORKS WITH PRINTS
If you have a love for collecting original artworks, you can style your feature wall with a mixture of other limited edition or general prints. Curate pieces that make your heart sing and are personal to you. When you walk into the room the wall has to make you smile, this could include motivational prints styled with original pieces of abstract artwork. Mix and juxtapose the sizes of your artwork and prints, I personally like quite a bit of white space between the works so they can all shine separately!

3. MIX UP HORIZONTAL AND VERTICAL STYLING
You might have pieces that are horizontal and some that are vertical, that’s ok. It adds to the overall interest on the wall. So if you want to style this way, go for it, or if you want to keep the wall styled with vertical pieces, that works just as well.

4. FRAMES AND FIXTURES
Ok, so this is your chance to think outside the box a little. I would advise the original pieces of artwork are professionally framed with art glass to protect its longevity, style and colour, you want to preserve it! Use different style frames, floater frames, magnetic clip frames or bull dog clips. Washi tape can look cool, especially for children’s bedrooms and playrooms. You can use mounts with some of your pieces, chunky or thinner sleek frames. You can fix your artwork to the wall with command strips which are pretty good, heavier pieces I’d advise using a drill, with a rawl plug and nail.

5.COLOUR & STYLE OF ARTWORK
Ok so probably my favourite topic! Some people are scared to use colour and that’s understandable - it can be scary if you don’t know where to start. Within my interior space at home, there is a-lot of white, however I’m a fan of adding accents of colour throughout. Pick out pieces that have accents of bold or bright colour and style them against compositions that have white, to help balance out the wall. Perhaps you want use colours such as serene blues that promote relaxation or yellows which are uplifting, bear these in mind for the space you are designing for. Create a simple colour story on Pinterest or if you are digitally savvy, use Photoshop. The best colour stories can come from your own personal photography, do you have a photo you love which you could work from? Your colour inspiration might start with your favourite piece of artwork, use accents from this to style the rest of your wall and interior space. I do think a sophisticated monochrome wall can look super sleek too.
Think about what type of artwork you are into. Walls that combine a number of styles can look really interesting, from abstract to more illustrative pieces. It could include black and white photography with or quotes that are personal, inspiring and motivational to you. The artworks could be digitally printed, hand painted or screen printed, this is where texture comes into play. Adding beautiful tapestries bring a sense of 3D and depth into the overall scheme.

6. MAKE IT PERSONAL

This is why they are so much fun to style, your gallery wall is a reflection of your personality and all the quirky things you love. I love polaroids and travel photography, they remind me of some my best experiences and treasured memories that make me happy when I look at them. Style up a section of your wall by having some of your personal photography framed, from friends and family to travel pictures, have a rummage through your old photography to see what you can find.

Everyone’s feature gallery wall is going to look different, by applying the some of my tips and tricks above you can’t go wrong! It’s a super way to apply a focal point to an interior space and can often inspire the interior set up for the rest of that room. Be brave and have fun styling yours!
