Abstract Energy Interior trend 2020

As 2020 is now in full swing, we’ve started to notice a range of fresh, new home décor trends which are emerging and making their way into homes and commercial spaces everywhere. Taking influence from the ‘Abstract Expressionist’ art movement, we can’t help but LOVE the “Abstract Energy” trend featured in Ideal Home’s interior trends for 2020. The combination of strong lines, cool colour contrasts and pattern showcases personality and creates a unique feel. We know for sure that this will be a trend with longevity and huge love!

Although at Kirath Ghundoo we are not directly influenced by trends when designing, we love to see how our quirky wallpapers and fabrics are used and stylised with other cool interior pieces which show influence to a trend. This being said, we undertook the challenge of styling a selection of our geometric wallpapers and prints with the “Abstract Energy” trend in mind. Take inspiration for your own interior space and discover how we would use our ‘Medina Green’ wallpaper with our popular ‘Lattice Green’ and ‘Mono Black’ luxe Velvets to replicate the look…

COLOUR
The combination of complimentary orange and blue tones paired with richer, warmer tones of mustard and olive green is not only sumptuous, but energetic and lively too – proving to be perfect for a residential space in need of individuality and playfulness. Make a statement with bold painted walls using a deep blue shade similar to Pantone’s colour of the year ‘Classic Blue’ (we think Valspar’s ‘Back of Beyond’ is a strong match) and accessorise the room with striking furniture pieces which bring emphasis to the energetic and expressionist look being created.

PATTERN
A fusion of both sharp, geometric and fluid lines is both eclectic and cool. Styling our ‘Medina Green’ wallpaper and bold, graphical luxe Velvets with sweeping curves and free-flowing patterns is a contrast we love a lot! The variation in colour and scale is fun and unique, reflecting the spontaneous feel of ‘Abstract Expressionist’ art. Our geometric wallpaper will work perfectly as a feature wall and get creative with our luxe velvets in ‘Lattice Green’ and ‘Mono Black’ by creating something entirely unique and personal - undertake a new upholstery project or make your own one-off, luxury cushions.

ACCESSORISE
Finish off your chosen space with interior décor pieces that not only compliment the energising and unique feel of the room but also compliment the chosen colour palette and patterns. Use an array of textured and tufted cushions to introduce softer elements to the interior space and chose artwork with free-flowing lines or bold colour contrasts. Keep your chosen interior space feeling contemporary and clean by introducing subtle monochrome elements too, we love the modern look created by this ceiling light from Tom Dixon.
